Meet our teaching staff



Name: Amber

Instruments you teach: Guitar, Piano, Ukulele, Intro to Rhythm (youth), Songwriting 

Other instruments you play: Saxophone (a little!), 
percussion, and singing 

Why did you start playing music? I’ve always loved creating and working with my 
hands. What started as drawing and poetry eventually turned into songwriting once I 
picked up my first instruments. I’ve always enjoyed blending different art forms, 
which led me to study Video Game Art and Design—where I could combine 
storytelling, art, and music in interactive ways! 

Who is your favorite Band/ Artist and why? I have a wide range of musical tastes 
and tend to go through phases. I often return to “Trick of the Light” by The Villagers 
and love anything with a good groove. Joe Hisaishi (Ghibli films) and Nobuo 
Uematsu (Final Fantasy Games) first showed me how deeply music can make us 
feel art. 

What do you enjoy most about teaching music? Teaching music is one of the 
most rewarding experiences I’ve been lucky to be part of. I love getting to know my 
students and helping them bring their own personalities into their music. Everyone 
connects with and digests music differently, so I get to learn so much from my 
students about the world and being a better teacher while helping them discover 
their own musical voice. 

What else do you do beside music instruction, and what other hobbies do you 
enjoy in your spare time? I have a duo “AMBAM + DA’MAN” that performs locally 
but aside from music- I’m also an artist and create both personal artwork and 
functional graphic designs for others. I love going on adventures with my Australian 
Shepherd and my Manx cat, and I enjoy running in the summer. 

Anything else you’d like to add? Music and art touch our lives every day and help 
us move through fears and anxieties in such a beautiful, introspective way- even if 
we don’t realize it at the time. If you’ve ever wanted to create something of your

Name: Brooklyn
Instruments you teach: Piano 
Other instruments you play: Alto Saxophone 
Why did you start playing music? I started playing piano because I was drawn to 
the sound of the instrument and wanted to explore music more deeply 

Who is your favorite Band/ Artist and why? Noah Kohan is my artist because his 
music feels warm and genuine 

What do you enjoy most about teaching music? I enjoy teaching music because 
seeing kids accomplish a song they’ve worked hard on and watching how proud 
they are 

What else do you do beside music instruction, and what other hobbies do you 
enjoy in your spare time? Outside of teaching, I’m completing my studies in 
nursing. I enjoy cooking/ baking and I like to travel and experience new places when 
I can.  
Name: Doug

Why did you start playing music? started drums at 11 years old in Ted Good Sea 
Cadets Band -played professionally in Toronto for 10 years-attended Grant 
MacEwan University music-played in BU Jazz Band play and play in a few local 
bands ie Cold Duck 3D Band etc  

Name: Faith

Other instruments you play: Tenor Saxophone, Singing 
Why did you start playing music? My parents put me in lessons starting in grade 1 
and I enjoyed it! I decided to then take lessons all throughout school and played in 
some festivals 
Who is your favorite Band/ Artist and why? I have so many favorites but my top 
artist is currently Noah Kahan as I like folk/ pop music. I also love Adele, Sam Smith 
and caamp. 
What do you enjoy most about teaching music? I enjoy helping my students 
progress and learn new skills. Fun to look back and see how far they have come in 
such a short while. 
What else do you do beside music instruction, and what other hobbies do you 
enjoy in your spare time? I am a student earning my masters degree and work in 
the social services field. My hobbies include baking, painting and playing with my 
dog and 3 cats. 

Name: Gerry 
Instruments you teach: Guitar 
Other instruments you play: Bass, banjo, flute, harmonica and I’m learning 
keyboard! 
Why did you start playing music? I’ve always been interested in music since I was 
very small listening and playing it! My parents and grandparents were all big 
influences on my musical journey 
Who is your favorite Band/ Artist and why? I have a very wide broad variety of 
musicians and bands that I like. Some names are bands like Rush, Iron Maiden, 
Groundhogs, Stray Hawkwind, Rory Gallagher, Jude Sill, Stevie Wonder, Gordon 
Lightfoot - there’s loads! Good music is good music I say :) 
What do you enjoy most about teaching music? I enjoy when a student is making 
good progress and it’s very rewarding to know I had a hand in helping them on their 
musical path! 
What else do you do beside music instruction, and what other hobbies do you 
enjoy in your spare time? To be honest I don’t really do anything besides music! 
Now that I work as a teacher and here in the shop, play guitar in a hard rock power 
trio my time is mainly spent with music related activities but I suppose I also love 
fishing and travelling! But even when I’m traveling it’s musically oriented!! 
Anything else you’d like to add? A life without music would be no life at all :) Keep 
rocking and boppin’! It’s worth it!

Why did you start playing music? I needed a hobby and I love music 
Who is your favorite Band/ Artist and why? Billy Talent - they were the first 
concert I went to  
What do you enjoy most about teaching music? Helping students find their own 
voice musically  
What else do you do beside music instruction, and what other hobbies do you 
enjoy in your spare time? Cadets and farming 



Name: Ryan 
Instruments you teach: Bass, Guitar 
Other instruments you play: A little... banjo, mandolin, lap steel guitar, dulcimer, 
ukulele, tuba, harmonica, drums, and keys. 
Why did you start playing music? Started piano at eight Bass at twelve, and the 
other instruments later. 
Who is your favorite Band/ Artist and why? One of my favourites is Tom Waits, 
just a really cool sense of songwriting, storytelling, and intriguing arrangements and 
instruments.  
What do you enjoy most about teaching music? What I enjoy most about 
teaching is what I learn from the students. I also enjoy sharing what I've learned from 
this musical journey that I am on.  
What else do you do beside music instruction, and what other hobbies do you 
enjoy in your spare time? I enjoy working on instruments, watches and watching 
movies.

Name: Wesley

Why did you start playing music? I started playing music when I was 4 years old. 
Early music lessons from that age started the 30 year passion that continues to 
grow. Regular lessons and exposure to so much music at home both contributed to 
my success as a musician. 
Who is your favorite Band/ Artist and why? This is the hardest question. I have 
influences from many genres and time periods. Among the top: Chopin, Michael 
Brecker, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Weird Al, Bill Whelon, Calvin Volrath, Vulfpeck, 
Stevie Wonder 
What do you enjoy most about teaching music? My favorite part about teaching 
is getting to instill a permanent appreciation of music in my students. My goal is for 
my students to see music as a lifestyle. 
What else do you do beside music instruction, and what other hobbies do you 
enjoy in your spare time? While music takes up the bulk of my time, I enjoy yard 
maintenance in all seasons, bike rides and family time.
